Police in Mukono District, Central Uganda have arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old teacher at Seeta High School.

Ivan Oloya is said to have been killed on March 22, 2025, at around 1:30 am in Bajjo Cell, Nyenje Ward, Goma Division.

“According to reports, Oloya left his workplace at Seeta High School, Mbalala Campus, and was heading home to Bajjo when he was attacked and killed near the gate of Code High School, where his wife, Abbey Mercy, works as a teacher. The police introduced canine units to the scene leading to the arrest of the suspects,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango.

He identified the suspects as Paul Kasumba Paul, a 21-year-old casual worker; Simon Mabale, a 23-year-old casual worker; Tom Kibuuka, a 38-year-old mechanic, Simon Lukodda, an 18-year-old casual worker and another 16-year-old casual worker.
Olaya’s body was taken to Mulago Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem as police detectives tie together more evidence to establish the motive behind his murder and search for more suspects.

The school principal, Mr Devis Kafumbe said Oloya joined Seeta High about a year ago.
“Preparations for his send-off are underway as he will be laid to rest in the eastern part of Uganda,” he said.
Oloya’s demise comes just a month after a 16-year-old student was on February 21 found hanging dead in one of the school dormitories.
