Two arrested over death of Kyambogo University IT personnel

Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which a 40-year-old IT personnel at Kyambogo University was killed in Namugongo, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District.
Police said Jacob Ankasasira was attacked and beaten by a mob in Kigambo Ghetto, Namugongo on suspicion of being a thief. 
 
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire told this reporter on Friday that Ankasasira’s death is being investigated by detectives at Kira Division Police.
 
“Police are actively investigating to identify and apprehend those involved in the mob attack [of Ankasasira]. Intelligence teams are on the ground. However, two suspects have been arrested to help with the investigations,” he said.
 
Preliminary investigations revealed that on November 30, 2024, Ankasasira and his wife, Catherine Kansiime , spent a night at a guest house in Kyebando, Kampala. The following day, he left the guest house to buy milk but never returned to the room their booked room, as testified by his wife.
 
On December 02, a one Chrispus Ainembabazi informed Kansiime that Ankasasira was severely beaten in Namugongo near the Catholic Shrine.
  
The police officers who visited the scene took Ankasasira to Angelina Medical Center who referred him to Mulago National Referral Hospital for better medication. 
However, Ankasasira died on December 11. The hospital said he succumbed to severe brain injuries caused by blunt force trauma.
Kansiime was arrested but later released on bond following family suspicions of her involvement in her husband’s attack. Postmortem results confirmed the cause of death as severe brain injuries.
 
It is alleged that Ankasasira had a family dispute over property inheritance and a history of alcohol abuse, which police are using as leads to piece together evidence to establish what led to his death.
 Meanwhile, a prayer service for Ankasasira’s body will be held tomorrow (December 14) at St Kakumba Chapel, Kyambogo, followed by a vigil on December 15 in Rwentondo Kashaka Parish, Kashari County in Mbarara District where he will be buried.
