Two factories closed for flouting Covid-19 SOPs

Two factories in Njeru municipality in Buikwe District have been closed for allegedly flouting the Standard Operating Procedures that were put in place by the Ministry of Health to control the spread of Covid-19 as government eased the virus induced lockdown.

The two factories were also found without functioning sanitary facilities, according to the Municipality health team.

Mr Phillip Sserunjoogi, the Health inspector for Njeru Municipality and the head of Covid-19 task force in the municipality said Leeko industries limited and Pramukh steel were closed Friday because of their complacency in efforts against the spread of the virus.

The two factories had no washing facilities, no adequate disinfectant, employers were not putting on masks and the sanitary facilities were in a very sorry state, Mr Sserunjoogi said.

“We recommended at least they temporarily close so that they can put up these facilities because it is putting the employees at high risk catching Covid-19 and other communicable diseases,” Mr. Sserunjoogi said.

This comes after the Ministry of Health on Friday confirmed 122 new Covid-19 infections as number of virus cases rose to 11,163.

The Ministry also confirmed one more death as fatalities rose to 99.

So far, 7,269 people who previously tested positive for the virus have recovered and been discharged from hospitals across the country since March 21, when the virus outbreak was confirmed in the country.

A total of 532, 332 samples have been tested for the virus since March this year.
