Change of guard at UOC

Change: A planned succession sees Rukare at helm of UOC. /JOHN BATANUDDE.

It will take something extraordinary, perhaps only a natural calamity, to stop Donald Rukare from stepping into the shoes of William Blick as the president of Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) today.

The succession plan was drawn and implemented way before today’s elective assembly at their offices in Lugogo, where eight of the 10 members of the executive committee that will serve from today to 2025 come in unopposed.

“I am happy that UOC has mature-minded politics where we can agree on our next president and ask our members to build an agreeable team around him,” Blick said on the back of two weeks of lobbying their members to agree to this direction.

Before the coronation of their current secretary general and chairman of National Council of Sports Rukare, his vice presidents, general secretaries, treasurer and the female executive board members, the 28 federations under UOC will elect the male board representatives.

Modern pentathlon president Simon Peter Komakech, and his contemporaries from (Abdul Nasser Sserunjogi (basketball), Godwin Arinaitwe Kayangwe (rugby) and Richard Mcbond Asiimwe (archery) will battle to fill the two available seats.
