At long last, the 25 boxing coaches who attended an international certification course last year got to know their results at Lugogo yesterday.
Of the 25 coaches who attended the Aiba 1-Star course in mid-July 2019, at Lugogo, 23 passed; only two failed the 75 percent pass mark and shall need to retake the course to get the honours.
“It’s an honour to add this certification to my CV,” said Shakira Mukungu of East Coast. “I’m equally happy that even my fellow lady passed…with these credentials we need just team work to take women boxing to another level.”

Second time lucky
Mercy Mukankusi, a national female coach, was one of the 18 who failed this course in 2015, when only seven passed.
“We have had trouble convincing parents to give us their daughters but I think this certification will make our work easier,” she shared her delight.
However, only 17 got their certificates while the six shall have to first clear their fees arrears with the Uganda Boxing Federation.

Registration fee
Each participant had to pay US$250 (Shs950,000) but some were allowed to attend before clearing the whole fee.
Of the three female coaches who attended two received certificates.
“It’s a great achievement by the federation because we cannot demand quality from the boxers when our technical personnel are not qualified enough,” said Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi before adding that the next course that can be held in Kampala could be the Aiba 2-Star. “On behalf of the National Council of Sports James Kasumba congratulated all the coaches who have excelled.
