Bwogi defeats Chedy, hopes for a brighter 2025

What you need to know:

Bwogi showed a small wound on his knuckle which he said was due to a hard shot to Chedy’s teeth that tore through his glove. Strange but could be true.

Shadir Musa Bwogi had expected an eventful return to the Lugogo Indoor Arena against Tanzanian Joseph Gihi on December 20. Instead, he fought for an almost empty venue in the wee hours of December 26 against a different Tanzanian William Chedy after security forced Baltic Promotion to postpone the Big Show.

It was a costly shift, as most fans who had prepared for the first date, failed to turn up on Christmas. Even most matches changed, with some fighters paired against new opponents, while others were scraped off the card.

“It should have been much better. But our fans were disappointed,” Bwogi told Daily Monitor after a unanimous defeat of Chedy in five rounds.

Nevertheless, the Tokyo 2020 Olympian picked the positives from a lonely night. “It’s good that I fought and won, amid the challenges. Hope this helps us to plan better next time.”

It should have been an easier victory but the southpaw mostly used his right hand to jab and hook, as his corner shouted for his stronger left.

Bwogi showed a small wound on his knuckle which he said was due to a hard shot to Chedy’s teeth that tore through his glove. Strange but could be true.

“It’s been a long time since my last fight at home. But I have big plans for next year,” Bwogi said after improving his professional record to 8-0-0 and handing Chedy the tenth consecutive loss.

Bwogi was supposed to fight for an African Boxing Union title shot in October which didn’t happen. Baltic had wanted to give him the chance this time, but promoter Eddie Bazira told Daily Monitor that they pushed the title to February 2025.

In the co-main event, Salima Tibesigwa, aka the Green Mamba, turned Tanzanian Lulu Kayange into a punching bag right from the first bell. By the second round the referee had seen enough and stopped the bout in favour of Tibesigwa now 10-4-0.

Prior, Bobi Wine’s friend Mudde Robinson Ntambi had such a terrible night against familiar rival Ivan Mugisha that the fight ending in a draw was shocking.

Revellers also witnessed a rare moment of romance when Conrad Sseruyange despite losing to Majid Kabonge, proposed to his girlfriend Hanifah Nakyanzi inside the ring. The curvy Nakyanzi dived deep into a sea of emotion before finally taking the ring.
