What you need to know:

Bat & Brains. Fresh from international duty, Soroti City’s Proscovia Alako made a calm, statement comeback in the Lyca Women’s T20 League.

“I applied myself well and played around the younger players to keep us going,” said Proscovia Alako, who marked her first appearance in the Lyca Women’s T20 League this season with an unbeaten 41 as Soroti City CC completed a dominant double over Tornado Bee at the Florida Oval in Njeru to tighten their grip atop Group A.

Soroti won the first game 34 runs with Alako taking the Player of the Match (POTM) Award and she was also unbeaten in the second game on four runs after facing one ball that she crushed to the boundary as her team made it a perfect pair.

Sensible batting

“My whole thought process was simple,” Alako told Daily Monitor. “Coach told me to play around the young players, rotate strike, and hit where applicable. I applied myself well.”

Returning from the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament in Rwanda, where she batted in the middle order and scored 70 runs for Uganda, Alako was pleased with her measured approach. “Yeah, I achieved what I wanted. I want to build more confidence in tough moments and understand game tactics more deeply.”

Her highlights included a six over covers and a four cut behind point. “Those were my greatest shots that day. No bowling troubled me because where the ball was good, I respected it, and when it was hittable, I applied myself,” she added, confirming her leg injury from Kwibuka is healing after a clear MRI scan.

Jinja SS stay close

The day also saw Jinja SS claim back-to-back wins over Mukono Development at Jinja Oval. Captain Tahia Nassuuna (37 & 1/8) starred in the morning’s 19-run win, while Mary Namiiro (40*) led the afternoon’s 77-run demolition. At Florida Oval, Soroti City’s Kevin Amuge produced a fiery 4/20 as Tornado Bee folded for 29 in the afternoon game, chased down in just 4.2 overs for an eight-wicket rout.

Soroti City remain unbeaten atop Group A with 16 points from eight matches. In Group B, Jinja SS (8 points) sit behind leaders Olila CC (16 points).
