Kutchi Tigers rule the roost

On A Mission: Kutchi Tigers are starting to look impregnablePHOTO/EDDIE CHICCO

What you need to know:

Title Grip. Kutchi Tigers are beginning to look like a side on a mission. With every commanding performance, they remind everyone why they are the defending champions as the 2025 National Men’s 50 Over League enters its business end.

Kutchi Tigers are no longer just surviving - they are asserting. The reigning kings of Uganda’s limited-overs game delivered a ruthless 7-wicket dismantling of Rounders at the Serenity Oval in Kamengo on Matchday 6 of the 2025 National Men’s 50 Over League to reclaim the Premiership summit.

With regulars like Brian Masaba missing for Rounders, the Tigers showed no mercy, restricting the hosts to 163, thanks to the crafty combination of Rabadiya Nautam (3/25) and Ghanshyam Ashani (2/36). The chase was a show of intent.

Nitin Jeshani tore into the attack with a fiery 78 off 60 balls, ably supported by Hasin Ashani (36), as Kutchi wrapped up victory in under 24 overs.

Dictating pace

The victory lifts Kutchi Tigers to seven points from four games, holding off JACC and Ceylon Lions, who remain in the title picture with six and five points respectively.

Elsewhere, Avengers kept their playoff hopes alive with a gritty four-wicket win over Aboojo. Despite early jitters in the chase, all-rounder Pius Oloka (3 wickets, 21*) proved the difference.

In Division Two, GM Sugar flexed their muscles with a 170-run demolition of SKLPS, powered by a sizzling 91* from Pramit Harishbhai Patel and a combined 9-wicket haul by the Patel bowling trio. The walkover win for Kutchi Tigers B over no-show Jinja SS ensured they maintained their perfect start in Group A.

The chasing pack must surely up their game if they are to deny Kutchi Tigers a back-to-back crown.

Talking Point

Champion Mentality. Kutchi Tigers are starting to look frighteningly efficient. With three wins from four matches and a Net Run Rate surge courtesy of a seven-wicket blitz, their depth and belief are growing. And with Jesani averaging over 50 and the spin trio firing, the signs are ominous for anyone daring to challenge.
