What you need to know:

  • Kamusiime and Muhangi, who took up the game of golf literally at the same time two years ago, were the overall winners with 41 points on count-back and 48 points respectively at the Tusker Malt Lager-facilitated event.

Hon Caroline Kamusiime and Michael Muhangi honoured Anne Abeja with resounding victories as the latter  bowed out as Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Lady Captain infront of a packed 19th hole at Kitante on March 20.

Kamusiime and Muhangi, who took up the game of golf literally at the same time two years ago, were the overall winners with 41 points on count-back and 48 points respectively at the Tusker Malt Lager-facilitated event.

“My game was good and I thank God for the opportunity to play. I have been practicing a lot,” said the 40 year-old Woman MP for Rukiga District, Kigezi Region.

“I pay tribute to my coach Deo Akope , Hon John Byabagambi and Abeja for the encouragement, “ added the 31-handicapper soon after picking her prizes; a trophy, air-ticket to a destination of choice courtesy of Uganda Airlines, a weekend  for two at Kigambira Safari Lodge, a trophy and a Savings Account with a deposit of Shs1m from Britam.

Muhangi’s moment
Muhangi wasn’t rewarded with a savings account but picked the other prizes that Kamusiime got.

But he nevertheless was elated with his round that included five birdies on Hole No. 1, 6,  8, 9 and 13.  “The course was in good condition thanks to the rains after so many dry days and I got several lucky breaks,” said the handicap 15 golfer who is also the Head of Oil and Gas at Stanbic Bank.

Hailing sponsors
“I have been primarily a weekend golfer but now I want to buy some new equipment and hopefully I will win some more,” said the 32-year-old who is nicknamed Deejay because of his beard shape and height.

Lady of the night Abeja served cake to crown the evening and said as much about continuing to serve the game of golf for it’s further development.

“I will forever be grateful to the sponsors of this game that ensure we can host beautiful tournaments like this. We have to maintain the status of this game at this premier club and in the country,” said Abeja amidst applause.

“This tournament is very special to me because it marks the end of an era of the Lady Captainship.  As I sign out, I warmly welcome on board the in-coming Lady Cap tainGrace Kabonero and her entire executive. A true mark of any leader is having a worthy successor. I have found one in Kabonero.”

Abeja moves on to takeover as Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) president.
