What you need to know:

On the eventful day, Kibaya got the best smile when he was crowned by MTN CEO Sylvia Mulinge as the day’s best player after returning a best score of 68 nett off handicap 17 and he beat a sizable field of 210 players on count-back.

Andrew Kibaya boasts of an affable character and he wishes many well. When his peers win, he often escorts them to the podium at several golf tournaments.

On Saturday night, Kibaya got the same treatment but in greater currency from a bunch of friends including Elly Kibuka Mukasa, Edward Kabuuchu, Annette Nakiyaga, Michael Ssekadde, Andrew Bugembe, Kin Kariisa, Richard Serumpanise, John Basabose and Paul Kaheru among others as his favourite Afrigo Band jam Bwosika Ekitajja played.

Kibaya then spent the evening in a visibly delightful mood at the huge podium after he was crowned as the overall winner of the Entebbe Grand Tee of Tees presented by MTN.

On the eventful day, Kibaya got the best smile when he was crowned by MTN CEO Sylvia Mulinge as the day’s best player after returning a best score of 68 nett off handicap 17 and he beat a sizable field of 210 players on count-back.

Yet even with his electric celebrations, the legal expert in banking and finance law, had been humbled. “It was a normal round for me, it’s just the scores were different,” Kibaya said in an interview.

“I have absolutely no idea of what I did best; I just kept doing what I normally do. I have played much better before. Maybe I should say that for the 17 years I have been playing, this is the second time I am winning the overall Entebbe year closing Tee tournament.”

Kibaya had no birdie in his round. However, in the company of his familiar friends Kabuuchu, Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Mukasa, he savoured eight pars.

Kibaya made three double-bogeys on Holes par-3 No.8, par-4 No.17 and par-5 No.18. “At No.17, he was 7-under and then dropped five shots. And he still won. That was serious,” Mukasa lauded his buddy.

“On No.17, I hit a very good drive, had a good second and third shot onto the green and then putted three times and that disappointment led to No.18 being funny. It’s a fitting finale for me for the year, in every sense. I had no idea of winning,” added Kibaya.

Since completing his round, Kibaya had remained humbled and even participated in welcoming Mulinge to Entebbe before the latter officially opened the club’s new half-way house built by MTN, right below the tee-box of par-3 Hole No.10.

After he was crowned, Kibaya danced the night away with his friends as Madoxx Sematimba delivered a classic performance.
