As the clock ticked down to the start of the long-awaited Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Team Uganda is ready to join the party with rower Kathleen Noble first to go.
The Bombers got to know who they will face after the draws done yesterday. Bombers team captain Shadir Musa Bwogi gets a bye to the round of 16 and now enters the ring on Tuesday, July 27 at 11am.
David Kavuma Ssemujju faces Algerian Younes Nemouchi in the Round of 32 on Monday, July 26 at 12.18pm.
First female
Uganda’s first Olympic female boxer Catherine Nanziri will face home girl home girl Tsukimi Namik in the Round of 32 this Sunday, July 25 at 11.15am.
On the other hand, after days of deliberation, the Ugandan contingent has been able to choose an athlete to carry the flag at today’s opening ceremony.
They were only six athletes in the Olympics Games Village to choose from.
The honour was finally bestowed on boxer and captain of the Bombers team, Shadir Bwogi and swimmer, Kirabo Namutebi, the youngest member of the team.
Day Out
The opening ceremony is scheduled to start at 2pm.
Each country has been allowed six athletes and six officials as part of the marching party due to Covid-19 restrictions. The minute I stepped in Japan, I started getting Tweets in Japanese from apparently Japanese companies who are eager to sell me products whether or not I understand Japanese.
The marketing is so relentless that I might just be tempted to buy some Japanese product that I do not know.
