What you need to know:
Crown and ASKA have met once this season in the Uganda Cup with Crown prevailing 8-3. But ASKA have since added new players.
There will be fireworks tonight as surprise leaders Crown Lubiri aim to maintain their perfect start in the betPawa Futsal League when they face Nansana ASKA this Friday at Okla Futsal Arena.
The league leaders, with 13 points from five games and one draw, are one point clear of second-placed ASKA, and they are the only unbeaten team in the competition so far.
Crown are riding high after last week’s 2-1 win over Kabowa and is looking to extend their unbeaten run.
Coach Najib Abdulrazaq’s side has been dominant this season and they will be confident heading into a must-win clash against Nansana ASKA, who are also in a run of their own.
Team captain Abdihamid Ahmed Rijaal describes the tricky encounter as very crucial.
“It’s a big game, no doubt about that. But we have to take every opportunity to win all games to keep our run going. Every game is a final for us because when you lose some points you go down easily. Our target is to win this game,” Rijaal said.
The top is so congested that three teams; ASKA, Park and Kabowa are tied on 12 points with fifth-placed Mengo City on 10.
Crown and ASKA have met once this season in the Uganda Cup with Crown prevailing 8-3. But ASKA have since added new players.
“All eyes are on us. When you’re top every team wants to challenge you,” Rijaal added.
Two in a row for Kisenyi?
Inconsistency has been the middle name of Kisenyi team right from last year when they played as maids of honour to Park. A squad overhaul hasn’t helped either as they have struggled to get back-to-back wins.
Tonight, they entertain a hugely inexperienced but talented Busunju SPAKS, a football academy giving its players a taste of the quick flowing five-a-side game.
Busunju’s strength is in playing as a unit and the threat provided by the aggressive Collin Talemwa, who has been rewarded with seven goals so far.
But this is a winnable game. Kisenyi coach Sulaiman Sekanyo wants his players to rise up and start collecting points.
“We need to stick to our plans. We need to put up a collective front and try to win,” Sekanyo said.
Redemption for QC
The true measure of Mbarara QC will not be determined by how they perform against the youngest team of the league, Edgars. One of the best teams on paper, Mbarara QC’s efforts have been undermined by internal struggles and have hardly been convincing so far.
Mbarara QC, Kisugu and Edgars are the only sides yet to win a game this season with bottom-placed Edgars losing all the five.
