Frustrated Kisenyi shifts focus on Uganda Cup

What you need to know:
Kisenyi’s form has been worrying with only three wins this season. The slump is concerning to the fans, who are growing mute by every matchday but team chairman Omarios Ali believes in his [Sekanyo’s] ability to achieve success in alternative competitions this season.
A lacklustre performance has left Kisenyi wondering what went wrong in a season they anticipated to be title contenders.
After finishing as the second-based team last season, Kisenyi find themselves languishing in a disappointing eighth place, with hopes of winning the league title fading.
However, the club remains steadfast in its support to the technical team headed by Sulaiman Sekanyo, despite a string of poor results.
Kisenyi’s form has been worrying with only three wins this season. The slump is concerning to the fans, who are growing mute by every matchday but team chairman Omarios Ali believes in his [Sekanyo’s] ability to achieve success in alternative competitions this season.
Although they face bottom-placed Edgars this weekend, Omarios admitted that real chances are in the Cup competition. Kisenyi are in the quarterfinals of the Uganda Cup alongside Fiyore, Park, First Touch, Motion Sports, Kabuusu Clouds, Mengo Academy and Crown.
“Our season hasn’t gone according to plan but we need to play better in the remaining games,” Omarios, whose side has suffered misfortune at the hands of umpires, noted.
The Light Blue’s last match was a 3-0 loss to leaders Park while Edgars won their first game last week.
Head coach Sekanyo will not make his side rest on the laurels as he anticipates the youthful side to pose serious threats.
“They may not have had consistent performances just like us but they are still very dangerous team especially in offense,” Sekanyo said.
With teams technically unable to add players to their squads, Kisenyi will opt to continue grooming young players to gain experience.
Derby day on card
The weekend will witness what is probably the game of the day with a cracker between Mengo Kisenyi’s big two, Mengo City and Crown Lubiri. The two sides have been impressive with Mengo winning eight games on the trot although the wheels have started coming off for Crown, who now sit third in the log.
Mengo City will be looking up to the dynamic duo of Farouk Tumwesigye and Kharim Tebera while Crown will hope the two consecutive losses have been just a purple patch.
Victory for Mengo City will see them move on top of the log if Park don’t win against their alum who crossed to QC Mbarara. Should Park win, they will continue to enjoy the top of the league.
