She Cranes team captain Peace Proscovia is riding on cloud nine after re-signing with the Sunshine Coast Lightning, after joining them England’s Loughborough Lightning last year.
With a variety of lessons learnt from the previous seasons, the shooting ace has vowed to work harder in her new tenure come 2021.  “I feel lucky to be given another opportunity with the Sunshine Coast Lightning. I will work hard for the best,” said Proscovia.
In Proscovia’s inaugural season in 2019, the two times Australian Suncorp League Champions finished third behind victors Collingwood Magpies and Melbourne Vixens. Sunshine Coast Lightning settled for second place this year behind winners Melbourne Vixens as the league climaxed on Sunday.
Proscovia hopes for a turn in fortunes next season. “Yes it is not the result we wanted this year but all the same we had a great season given the current situation of Covid-19.  We shall be back at the top,” she said. Proscovia alongside South African defender Phumza Maweni were able to extend their stay until 2021. According to head coach Kylee Byrne, the duo was outstanding with a lot of professionalism.
“Peace and Phumza have taken real strides since joining our club, embracing the professionalism and lift in standards required to thrive in the competition,” Byrne said. “I’m excited to see how they can contribute further next season both on and off court,” she added.
Proscovia joined England’s Loughborough Lighting from NIC in 2015. The towering shooter later moved to Australian Sunshine Coast Lightning in 2019. As captain, the shooter led Uganda to two Netball World Cups in 2015 and 2019 where Uganda emerged eighth and seventh respectively.
She also led the country to back-to-back Africa Netball Championships victory in 2017 and 2018 not forgetting a sixth-place finish at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Australia.
