What you need to know:

High-flying Roxberry take on Upper Volta in the Nile Special National Pool League at Roxberry Bar in Kiwanga-Mukono on Sunday. It’s not just a league game but a potential early title decider.

After the festivities and the feasts that supplement the holidays, it’s back to the bread and butter of the pool sport – the league.

High-flying Roxberry take on Upper Volta in the Nile Special National Pool League at Roxberry Bar in Kiwanga-Mukono on Sunday. It’s not just a league game but a potential early title decider.

Currently, Roxberry are top with 48 points and they take on second-placed Upper Volta with the aim of stretching the gap between the two sides to at least seven points.

It’s shaping up to be a huge second half to the season with the title race down to mainly three contenders – Roxberry, Upper Volta and Scrap Buyers.

While addressing the players during a luncheon at Nanjing Restaurant in Kololo, Zak Idiro, the chairman of Roxberry encouraged his players to remain focused on the big goal of winning the championship.

“We have the best squad around and we have high hopes amongst each of our players to win the title for our fans,” Idiro said.

Upper Volta won their rescheduled first round game against third-placed Scrap Buyers on Sunday with a bonus point while Roxberry are expected to unveil their latest signing, Ian Kazibwe, who arrived from Capital Night.

Star player Ceasar Chandiga leads his team to Roxberry bar in Kiwanga-Mukono knowing that a win would close the gap at the top to at least one point.

It’s a tall order but the men from Kasubi will travel with confidence and not just that because they outsmarted Scrap Buyers on Sunday.

“We have had a really good performance, there’s no doubt about that and we will be going to try to do the same against Roxberry,” Chandiga said.

He added that: “Every game in this league is hard because anybody can beat anybody, but we’ve proved on our day what we can do,” Chandiga said.

The transfer window has been lukewarm with Scrap Buyers the busier in the market having added 2015 National Champion Amos Ndyagumanawe to their squad as well as Zambian Moses Mofya and Dan Mubiru (Wakiso City).

Additionally, Wakiso City have released their leading goal scorer Ashraf Misambwa by mutual consent. Wakiso host Scrap Buyers in their next fixture on Sunday at Hashtag Bar in Nansana.
