Uganda has been invited to compete at the Oceanics Tug of War Championship in Kimberley South Africa that is due June 12-15. This will also double as the 11th continental championship.
“Such invitations are an indication that the sport is widely recognized at the international level in a very professional way and we are requesting our clubs to embrace this opportunity,” Futwa president Edmund Kintu said in a meeting with members last week.
The competition should give Uganda a chance to have their athletes and aspiring technical officials like judges the much required exposure to promote the sport in the country.
Futwa are also seeking recognition by the National Council of Sports and such activities will go a long way in endorsing their claim.
The championship will feature both male and female athletes. These will compete in the; 500kg, 520kg, 560kg (U23) weight categories for the women plus the 600kg (U23), 580kg, 640kg, 680kg, and 720kg for the men. The mixed teams will compete in the 560kg (U23) and 600kg weight categories.
