Aredo, Mudoola back to rekindle Kobs flame

Kampala- The return of Joseph Aredo and Fred Mudoola as coach will come as music to the Betway Kobs’ following after a not so satisfying last campaign.

Third place in the league, a semi-final finish in the Uganda Cup and second place in the Sevens is nowhere close to where Kobs should be.
Aredo joined Kobs in 2011, winning two league titles, three sevens championships and a Uganda Cup at the club he calls home.

The end of the 2016/2017 season saw him swallowed up by the Kenyan wave which had seen the country’s best players take their talents to Kenya as he left for a year loan spell at Kenya Harlequins.
“I returned because my yearlong loan had expired and I opted to return instead of renewing it,” Aredo told Daily Monitor yesterday.

Aredo also feels his spell at Harlequins has left him feeling a better and different player, something Kobs will have interest in after lacking a cutting edge for larger parts of the previous season.

“I have gained more exposure and experience on top of learning a few new things while there,” he said before suggesting he wants to win the Uganda that kicks off on Saturday.

“I hope we start the campaign well by winning the Uganda Cup, it would be a good thing to build on,” he added.

On top of Aredo’s return, Kobs announced nine more signings. Joshua Oboi, Ronald Musajjagulanyago, Robert Aziku and Fred Ochan have all joined to patch up the pack, an area where Kobs immensely struggled last year.

Timothy Kabonero also returns after a long injury layoff. Brothers Daniel Ortega and Donald Oketayot along with Ivan Kirabo, Isaac Taago and Sula Wanda join as backs.
