Ahead of the new campaign that tips off on Saturday, the Sea Robbers have entered a mega Shs450m deal with Roke Telkom.

Stanbic Black Pirates will start the new rugby season in good spirits following yet another addition to the growing list of partners.

Ahead of the new campaign that tips off on Saturday, the Sea Robbers have entered a mega Shs450m deal with Roke Telkom.

The sponsorship, according to Roke Telekom’s Commercial Manager Anthony Tenywa, aims to promote the growth and development of the sport amongst the youth.

“I am pleased to announce that Roke Telekom is committing 450m to the mighty Pirates as part of our support for the growth of rugby talent among Uganda’s youth,” Tenywa told the press at a briefing held Wednesday morning in Bugolobi.

“This sponsorship will also enable us as Roke to spread our footprint in the sectors like sports that we hold dear to our hearts,” he added.

Pirates’ chairman Daniel Canowira revealed that Roke, a home-grown telecommunications and cloud solutions provider for the last 18 years, and Pirates -a team started by university students in 1996, is a match made in heaven.

“For us, this sponsorship represents a major milestone. Being associated with a brand like Roke Telkom fuels our passion, accelerates our growth and encourages us to become beacons of excellence in our sport,” Canowira said.

The one-year partnership will see Roke provide both cash and other value considerations like supporting the club’s involvement in environmental sustainability, maternal health and education.

Pirates are set to kick off their 2025 campaign this Saturday, in a clash with the Walukuba Barbarians at Kings Park Arena, Bweyogerere.

Marvin Odongo’s charges have added forward Eliphaz Emong to their ranks and will start the campaign as one of the favourites for the championship.

Having lost the championship to rivals Platinum Credit Heathens in an intense final, Pirates will be hoping to make amends this season.
