Victoria’s secrets face Rhinos’ test

Kampala

Today at 5pm
Rhinos v Victoria (Nakuru)
Rwenzori v Buffaloes (KRFC)

Another long trip across the border is just one barrier Victoria must overcome to finish top of their pool in the regional Bamburi Rugby Super Series. The 10-hour bus ride for Victoria is tiny in comparison to toppling Kenya’s Rhinos on the latter’s home turf, Nakuru RFC, this evening. Both sides are through to the semi-finals after two victories and all that remains is to decide who finishes top of the pool.

Rwenzori, the other Ugandan side and Kenya’s Buffaloes are out of the reckoning in pool B and face-off at Kampala RFC with only pride at stake.
But the real action is in Nakuru as scrumhalf Faisal Gamma, flanker Steven Ogwete, lock Victor Wadia, centre Timothy Mudoola, winger Allan Musoke and fullback Simon Wakabi continue to stake their claim for Rugby Crane selection against the defending champions.

Resilience and hunger have been Victoria’s secrets. “At the start of the tournament, our target was to get to the semi-finals. Then we can take it from there,” Victoria coach Sam Ahamya said. Such are the steps Ahamya’s side have taken that anything is possible while Rwenzori embark on soul searching just like their coach Ham Osando.
Win for pride

In their two defeats, Rwenzori have been inept with their backline miles away from gelling. Fullback Benon Kiiza had a horrible outing last week as winger Lawrence Wakabi and outside centre Michael Wokorach are yet to hit the ground running.
