What you need to know:

The Lira side was trailing Gaddafi, who won their game in hand over Paidha Black Angels last Friday, but they did their homework to go top of the table on Sunday.

Blacks Power maintained their unbeaten record at home with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Gaddafi as the two traded places at the top of the Fufa Big League table.

The Lira side was trailing Gaddafi, who won their game in hand over Paidha Black Angels last Friday, but they did their homework to go top of the table on Sunday.

Paul Oonyu put the hosts ahead four minutes into the game but Gaddafi’s rapid attacks yielded 20 minutes later through their captain Thomas Kakaire.

Both teams pushed for the winner in the second half, but Lady Luck chose Blacks Power, as Ivan Okello grabbed the winner with twelve minutes remaining on the clock.

The result leaves both sides tied on 29 points but the Lira side coached by Bob Obira sit at the top thanks to the head-to-head rule for tie-breakers.

“We’ve been planning for every match and play them like a cup final because we have to meet our targets of returning to the Uganda Premier League,” Obira said.

“A win against our closest competitor will be our motivating factor as we aim to end the first round on a high,” he added.

In Yumbe, Calvary edged Onduparaka in a fierce West Nile derby to win 1-0, a result that propelled them back to the green spaces in the top three.

Elsewhere, Busoga United continued their rebuilding process under coach Charles Ayiekoh with their first away win of the season. Franco Mugomba and Nicholas Mutenza scored quick first-half goals as the Jinja side edged Booma 2-1 in Masindi.

The win lifted Busoga United out of the relegation zone to 10th with 14 points, ten behind Calvary in third. The first round will conclude next weekend.
