According to a club official, the team failed to travel for the game after the ferry at the Masindi Port broke down. He added that the option of using an alternative route through the Eastern route was not feasible due to time and that their efforts to request for a postponement by a day was not granted.
Docked points
However, in their ruling, the Fufa panel quoted Article 29(4) of the Fufa Competitions Rules and Regulations which provides that a club failing to turn up for any match shall submit a written explanation of evidence or proof detailing the reasons within 48 hours.
Accordingly, Booma did not submit their defense and therefore were sanctioned in accordance with the Ethics and Disciplinary Code.
“Booma therefore hereby loses the match mentioned here in above by forfeiture and is further docked three points and three goals from those already accumulated,” the ruling reads in part.
The ruling has infuriated their club director Daniel Bagambe who had initially threatened to pull out.
“[There’s} no fair hearing, I am off this whole local football venture,” he stated in a stakeholders’ email thread.
“How do you take judgment based on media talks? So if the team didn't travel why would we request to play the following morning?
“Did you check records at the ferry and the lodge the team Slept in?” he questioned.
Fufa warned Booma of dire consequences should they fail to turn up for another game but the team confirmed they are preparing for this weekend’s away clash against table leaders Gaddafi in Entebbe.
Gaddafi and Blacks Power lead the table into the New Year with 23 points each from 10 and 11 outings, respectively, while Buhimba United and Onduparaka follow closely with 19 points.
