Nec top of UPL

Nec took a 57th minute lead when the ball fell kindly to Paul Mucurezi from an Enock Ssebagala miscontrol to volley past Villa goalkeeper Brady Wokorach.

The Startimes Uganda Premier League table leadership continues to exchange hands with Nec taking their turn on Friday to go top after a 2-1 win over reigning champions SC Villa at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

Substitute Cromwell Rwothomio scored the winner four minutes from time to lift Nec to 22 points, two ahead of Vipers who drew with Kitara. 

This was another result that underlined Nec's title credentials having already beaten Vipers, KCCA at the same ground.

The Hussein Mbalangu-coached side fared well against a rampant Villa attack that had scored six goals in their previous game against Wakiso Giants eventually imposing their game on the opponents in the second half.

A fine Villa attack then pulled them level when left back Simon Semayange played a neat one-two with Patrick Kakande before releasing Hakim Kiwanuka who thumped the ball past Nec goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo on 72 minutes.

But Nec would respond when one of the four introduced substitutes Rwothomio pounced to volley in the winner on the turn four minutes from tome after more slack Villa defending to deliver another statement victory.
