Vipers opened a three-point lead at the top of the Uganda Premier League with a statement 2-0 win over rivals KCCA under the lights the Phillip Omondi Stadium on Sunday evening.
Aided by second placed Nec conceding in added time to drop points in a 1-all draw with Police, the Vipers venom proved too much for a defensively frail KCCA backline as they moved to 40 points from 17 games.
First, Yunus Sentamu breached the KCCA backline by cutting in from the left before curling in a sumptuous effort just inside KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa's left hand post on 28 minutes.

The goals took the game away from KCCA who had created the best chance up to that point when Etienne Katenga run onto Joel Sserunjogi's pass to head past Vipers goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza.
Derrick Ndahiro however made a timely recovery clearing the ball off the line.
KCCA coach Abdallah Mubiru responded with a double substitution sending Haruna Lukwago and Brian Ijara on for Sserunjogi and Mujjuzi.
KCCA improved in the second half with James Mubeezi forcing a save from Mudekereza while Saidi Mayanja shot over.
At the other end, Mugolofa kept out a Kenneth Kimera volley as Vipers pushed for a third goal.
The result leaves KCCA languishing in sixth position with 24 points, 16 off Vipers in what was a second damaging defeat in a space of four days having also lost Nec at the same ground on Thursday.
Attention will now switch to the Uganda Cup which is now KCCA's realistic chance of bringing a trophy to Lugogo.
