According to the Auditor General’s Report for the financial year 2023/24, medicines worth Shs316.6 billion were written off after they expired. These included millions of doses of Covid-19 vaccines, ARVs, and test kits. The Auditor General noted that this represented a significant waste of resources that could have been allocated to other pressing healthcare needs. The report also revealed that government agencies overpaid Shs30 billion in pensions and gratuities to various individuals. These findings were included in the audit report presented to Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, on Wednesday. The report also marked Edward Akol's first submission since his appointment as Auditor General.
