Facial swelling impacts young woman’s quality of life
Small, fluid-filled sacs, known as oral mucoceles, are common lesions that appear in the mouth and often disappear on their own. They are most frequently seen in individuals under 30. Given their prevalence, any similar, less aggressive swelling in the mouth can easily be overlooked, unless it begins to grow. This is the case with mandibular ameloblastoma tumors, which, if left untreated, can continue to grow. In Zahara Nyakaisiki’s case, this condition resulted in a significant facial swelling, affecting her social life and overall quality of life. We share the story of how this facial swelling has impacted a young woman’s life.
