As Uganda joined the rest of the world to celebrate International Nurses Day, the country continues to grapple with a low nurse to patient ratio, despite the availability of nurses. Experts have warned that this affects the quality of healthcare service delivery. Many employed nurses are under-utilised, working below their qualifications, and earning low wages. The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council says there is a need to recruit more nurses and midwives, as well as to improve their pay and working conditions.
