Uganda’s cattle numbers climb, beef consumption lags
Uganda’s cattle herd is projected to grow to nearly 10 million by 2026, reflecting a steady annual increase of 1.9%. Despite this growth, domestic beef consumption remains low, prompting concern among industry stakeholders. In response, ranchers have launched a dedicated meat retail outlet to promote locally sourced beef and reduce reliance on imports. The initiative aims to stimulate local demand and strengthen the country’s meat industry.
