Bududa.
Multiple mudslides triggered by heavy rainfall have hit Bududa District in eastern Uganda again destroying banana plantations, houses and crop plantations.

However, no deaths have been reported after mudslides swept through the parishes of Matuwa and Buraba in Bushiyi Sub-county.

The Tuesday incident followed a heavy downpour that lasted for more than three hours.

Several villages, including Zebiriti, Namamuka, Namurondolo, Elgon, Namabutse in Buraba parish and Matuwa, Shibanga and Bushinyala in Matuwa parish have been affected.

In 2010, more than 80 people were killed by the landslides that resulted from heavy down pour.

Landslides in 2013 again covered five villages in Bushiyi Sub-county but no deaths were reported.

Government has since launched a programme to relocate most of Mt Elgon settlers in Kiryandongo District.
Mr Mark Mukhooli, a resident of Matuwa parish, told Daily Monitor he was awakened by a loud bang but later released it was mud swept from uphill.

During a council meeting recently, the Budada outgoing chairman, Mr John Baptist Nambeshe, asked council to petition Parliament within the shortest time possible to relocate people, especially in high risk areas.

However, Mr Nambeshe also blamed the Office of Prime Minister, saying there have been delays in allocating people, even after environment alerts showing cracks in different parts of Bududa District.
