A security guard attached to the Kyabazinga's palace in Kamuli District has been arrested for allegedly shooting a 14-year-old boy whom he suspected to have stolen a jackfruit.

John Ojongole shot Umar Batambuze  in the chest  when he got information that the child, the boy who was passing near the palace with the jackfruit had stolen it from the Kyabazinga's garden.

The Kyabazinga is the traditional leader of the kingdom of Busoga. The current Kyabazinga is William Gabula Nadiope.

The boy's mother, Ms Fatuma Nabirye is nursing her son in Kamuli hospital.

Busoga North police spokesperson  Michael Kasadha confirmed the incident saying the guard, a UPDF soldier, is being detained at Kamuli Central Police Stataion as investigations into the incident continue.
