Uneb marking kicks off in 40 centres

The marking of the 2020/2021 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations have kicked off in Kampala District.

Marking is taking place in 40 schools, whose students were sent home on April 23 to allow the exercise go uninterrupted.

The spokesperson of Uganda National Examination Board (Uneb), Ms Jenipher Kalule, yesterday told Daily Monitor that1,600 examiners reported on Friday and Sunday last week to start  the exercise.
Of that number, 600 examiners are marking PLE while 1,000 are handling UCE.

“The numbers for UCE markers are more than PLE because the latter has fewer subjects than the former,” Ms Kalule said.

She also said 4,000 examiners, who are slated to mark the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education, will report on May 15.

Ms Kalule added that the examiners are not allowed to leave the venue once they enter the centres, adding that they can only go after two to three weeks. 

“The staff, who were slated to be interviewed for promotional jobs by Ministry of Education, have already been interviewed upon request by Uneb since they were not going to be permitted to leave the marking centres,”  she said.

The Uneb official said after the exercise, all papers are re-checked to ensure that all questions have been marked, which is then followed by data entry and grading.
