Kampala. The former URA tactician seems to have put his recent woes with the tax collectors at the back of his mind and is all focused on rejuvenating Mbarara City FC.

With four wins in 15 league matches, the Kakyeka based team sits in the 9th position and five points above the relegation zone in the Uganda premier league standings.

Mbarara City FC’s problem are not different from those of other teams in the bottom half of the table. Out the 15 league games played so far, they have scored only eight goals and conceded 10, plus seven draws. Such form is not good for any team with aspirations of staying in the top league.

Kirya took over from Vialli Bainomugisha who was relieved of his duties in November 2017 and he is fancying the team’s chances of battling for top spots with league heavy weights.

In an interview with Daily Monitor, Kirya said; “When I took over here, the morale of players was down and their fitness levels were so low, but I am optimistic that the team will improve if given space and time.”
He added, “At least the two months I have spent with them, there’s a big improvement in terms of motivation.”

The team also bolstered their starting line-up by bringing in new players as they aim to start the league’s second round on a high gear. These include; Owen Kasule from Soana FC, Abdul Karim from Express FC. Edie Mubiru Ntaganda came in as a free agent after overcoming a knee injury that ended his spell at St George prematurely.

Kirya’s first test comes against high flying Police FC at the Mandella National Stadium followed by Soana FC and a trip to Kitende to face Vipers FC.
