Do not rob the bank for some spare parts

Every time something goes wrong with your car or requires your attention, you are confronted with countless options amplified by perhaps a shady mechanic who will tell you how such a spare part needs urgent replacing.
Such advice, sometimes unsolicited, comes with cost implications and inflated prices that motorists, out of ignorance, fall for and cost more on an otherwise cheap spare part.
It is absolutely okay to buy some things expensively but not every car spare part should cost you an arm and leg.
To be clear, “cheap” does not mean buying the lowest grade or parts, you have to be more reasonable and buy something that is of good quality up to a certain level.
The logic is that as long as that spare does not play an integral part in stopping or moving the car including but not limited to tyres, brakes, suspension, transmission, among others, it is okay to save a little money here and there. Such items include:

Spark plugs
While some cars shall specifically require a particular type of spark plugs, most are largely generic and will do just fine with any plug.
As a matter of fact many times spark plugs fail because of a secondary problem. Spark plugs can go for up to 30,000 kilometres without replacement.
Bulbs
You do not need super expensive hyper white bulbs. Traditional bulb technology has matured to a level where any bulb works just okay. However, you just have to be a little careful with headlight bulbs, especially with the High Intensity Discharge ones

Wipers
In Uganda the need for wipers is extremely intermittent. So spending money on an expensive set of wipers is not worth it. Wipers can work for more than a year without being replaced therefore; they can be cheap and function properly.
Non- service parts
As we have already noticed, it is quite difficult to get new non-service parts for used Japanese cars.
Consequently, many motorists are slaves to Kisekka Market and other spare parts points where, you can bargain.
Here, the push factor or the bargain power will work wonders as you will be able to get a spare part at a cheaper or relatively low price.
Nevertheless always remember modern car systems are highly engineered and using good quality parts is critical to maintaining OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) levels of performance and durability.
