What you need to know:

Brian Ssekiwunga, a local artiste based in Masaka, commonly known as SK Brian, started driving at the age of 13 with the help of his brother. He has won two HiPipo Music awards in 2013 and 2014, for best artiste for southern region. He talked to Brian Mugenyi about his car.

What car do you drive?
I drive a Jeep Wrangler model 1976.

When did you buy it?
I bought it in 2012 from my friend; he had kept it for over 10 years.
I requested him to sell it to me and we agreed and I paid Shs18m but I had to fix a few things on it.

Is this your first car?
No, it’s my fifth car; In fact, I bought my first car during my university days at Makerere. I saved and got a Mitubishi Lancer at Shs12m.
The other cars I have owned include a Toyota Starlet Sport, Toyota Ipsum, Toyota Estima, and Nissan pickup.

What makes the Jeep different from the other cars?
It’s a car that commands respect; a jeep Wrangler is quite different from other cars in terms of its functions.
As a musician, it works for me though its seating capacity is small. It’s also a strong, unique four-wheel drive car.

What is your dream car?
I want the latest Jeep Wrangler.

Where do you service it from?
At Total Petrol Station-Masaka and I visit the garage whenever it has a mechanical problem.

Do you drive it on specific days?
Weekends of course, especially on Sundays or when I am going to perform at events, moving to studios to record my music, and I also rent it to people.

How much do you rent it?
I charge only Shs500,000 no matter where you are going but people mainly hire it for weddings. They normally book it in time so that I can adjust my programme.

Have you received offers from people wanting to buy it?
Of course, I have received many, especially from fellow artistes but I cannot sell it now. In fact I am planning on pimping the interior so that it looks better than it does now.

If you were to sell it, how much would you ask for?
If someone is willing to pay Shs50m I can surrender it.

Do you share your car?
Yes, I am a free man. I always share it with my friends.

What is its engine size?
It is a 4000cc and has got automatic gears. It was manual before but I just changed it to automatic because I don’t know how to drive manual cars.

What is its speed limit?
180km/h.

How much do you spend on its fuel and spares?
If I don’t drive long distances for instance, here in Masaka Town, I use Shs20,000 a day. It’s spare parts are expensive but the only replacement I normally make are lights, tyres and brakes but the rest of the car is still intact.

If not a Jeep what else?
It would be a Hummer but not now.
