Subaru fans plan mega car show

Perhaps no other car attracts as much enthusiasm as the Subaru, around which a cult following has built that goes beyond just mere owning it.

Many feel their Subarus is a rite of initiation and membership to a brotherhood that connects them. Renown for high performance, a unique engine and a characteristic sound, the Subaru is definitely a popular car in Uganda.

Though more especially in motorsport and those who follow it, an increasing number of people are buying the car for their daily commute or as a family car. There is indeed a wide range of models that suit the purpose.

This is part of the motivation behind the Subie Fest 2015, which is scheduled for early next month. It will be held April 4 in Munyonyo, Kampala.

“We want to bring together those who own Subarus, those who want to own one or even those who are just interested in the car,” says Eric Amadi, one of the organisers. “They will connect other onwers, share experiences and also get information on where to get products and services when they need them,” he adds.

The event will feature a car clinic, where participants at the show will interact with technicians and mechanics for professional consultancy. There will also be car check ups and get their questions answered by the experts.

In addition, Subaru enthusiasts from neighbouring Kenya will participate in the event. “We want to form an East African body just like the one in Southern Africa,” Amadi notes.

While the Subie Fest will have fun and entertainment, there is a charity angle to it as well. The proceeds will be donated to a charitable cause.
