KAMPALA.

By the time Betway Kobs kick start their first round of the Nile Special Rugby Premiership today, Buzz Pirates could have stretched their lead at the summit to seven points with a win against Makerere Impis yesterday. For the majority of the first round, Pirates kept the pressure on then leaders Kobs until it paid off last Friday.
Pirates leaped over Kobs in the standings with a 28-11 win as the two switched roles, Kobs will now have to do the chasing and hope they last in the fight. They host Rams, a side they beat 43-0 on the opening day of the campaign.
With home comfort and the urge to keep Pirates in sight, Kobs should get maximum points against the Mulago based side once again.
“We have to get back to the drawing board and look for improvements everywhere in the side to stay in it,” Kobs coach Ronnie Luttakome told SCORE after losing to Pirates last week.
His captain Brian Asaba’s plea to the side echoes his tutor’s. “We have to keep working hard every day.

It’s the only way the good results can keep coming every week,” Asaba told SCORE. A quick look at the table implies all the top five sides are still alive in the race. Pirates, Kobs, Rhinos Heathens and Mongers are separated by seven points.
It shows the season is still long with a lot to unfold. Heathens had a poor start in the first round but four wins on the spin have brought them back in the picture.
Today’s game against Jinja Hippos should be a cakewalk. “We want to win all our remaining games,” has been captain Michael Wokorach’s cry since the winning run started.
If Heathens won all their games and results elsewhere favoured them, who knows if they could end up defending their title.
