Rev Cornelius Kateregga, who was excommunicated from the Church of Uganda has been consecrated as a bishop in the Orthodox Anglican Church.
He was excommunicated from Church Of Uganda last year for allegedly denouncing some of the doctrines and values of the Church.
Bishop Kateregga was consecrated by the Most Rev. Christopher Umane; the Archbishop Orthodox Anglican Communion in Africa on Sunday during a mass at Gayaza in Kyotera District.

Kateregga was consecrated alongside Clement Ottieno from Tanzania.
Bishop Umane, who is the sitting president of the college of Bishops in the Orthodox Anglican Church led Rev Kateregga in taking the oaths of allegiance to authorities of the new communion.

Bishop Umane said they thoroughly examined Bishop Kateregga's capabilities in leading the new Orthodox Anglican Church in Uganda and help to advance its values among communities.
He said they have mandated Bishop Kateregga to prepare and ordain more priests to assist him in evangelising Ugandans.
“Great challenges are going to arise including criticism, but this should not make you hide in houses in fear. The direction we are giving you today is going out and preach the word of God, spread the church to every part of your country, widen the clergy, train them until the consecration of more new bishops to work under you,” Bishop Uname said.
The Orthodox Anglican Communion combines the ancient Catholic and Anglican Church values but excludes women from serving as priests. It allows cohabiting couples to get Holly Communion.
At the ceremony that was witnessed by over 600 people including followers and non-followers at Gayaza Vocational school main hall, Bishop Kateregga was ordered to go out of the hall and then knock on the door which was opened for him to conduct his first service.

Upon his consecration, Bishop Kateregga observed that the new office presents to him great opportunities to continue serving God, adding that he is committed to expand the size of his congregation by recruiting priests from other faiths, as a new approach towards persuading more people into the communion.
“The responsibility I have assumed today is going to see the minors, youths, adults, married and unmarried turning back to God regardless of any background, promoting the gospel with action to foster development and understanding Jesus Christ in one Union believing that we have one enemy the devil,” he said.

According to Bishop Kateregga, he doesn't regret his decision to leave the Church of Uganda (Anglican), arguing that he was about to be wasted in his former church hence considering another opportunity.
Mr Joseph Male, the Gayaza Parish chairperson, says Bishop Kateregga's consecration has fetched them pride as a community that associates with him and have high hope in him.
Ms Prosy Nakachubya and ms Scovia Nabwami, who converted from the Catholic faith, say they were persuaded by the joyous and lively moods under which the new Church conducts their prayers.
