Bangladesh national killed in Lira town

LIRA- Police in Lira District have confirmed the death of a Bangladesh national in Lira town, under unclear circumstances.

The deceased’s colleague has been admitted to hospital in critical condition.

 Hammed MD Maimuddin, 45, has been the area manager in charge of small enterprises for Brac Uganda, a microfinance institution.

He was on Tuesday found dead at Brac Uganda offices in Te-obia, Central Division in Lira Municipal Council.

His passport number BL0211172 was recovered at the scene.

 Brac Uganda’s service staff, Mr James Aworu, who was found unconscious in the same office is hospitalised at Lira Medical Centre.

 Police suspects the incident could have happened on Monday afternoon during a downpour.

 North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, Mr David Ongom, confirmed to Daily Monitor on Tuesday.  

“The cause of the accident is not clear since a postmortem report is not yet ready. And the man who is admitted to hospital is not yet able to make a statement since he is unconscious,” Mr Odongo said.

  Recently, police urged Lira residents to be alert following a series of robberies in  Lira Town.
