KAMPALA- Police Thursday have arrested former Forum for Democratic Change leader Kizza Besigye and Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago.
Lubaga North MP Moses Kasibante and several opposition leaders have also been rounded up.
Police operated under the cover of night darkness to deploy security personnel at the Kasangati home of Dr Besigye and the homes of Mr Lukwago and Lubaga North MP Moses Kasibante in Lubaga. Mr Lukwago was picked as he attempted to leave his home.
However, Dr Besigye beat the 24-hour surveillance at his home to emerge in the middle of Luwum Street’s Central Business District, prompting the police to cart the car he was travelling in to the Central Police Station. Police fired teargas to disperse crowds that tried to follow Dr Besigye to the police station.
Dr Besigye said he has “business to transact in town” and he would get there using “one way or another”.
