Prof Mary Okwakol is the new Uneb boss

Kampala.
Prof Mary Okwakol, the Vice Chancellor of Busitema University, has been appointed head of Uganda National Examinations Board following the resignation of Mr Fagil Mandy.
The board also renewed Mr Mathew Bukenya’s contract yesterday to head the examinations body’s secretariat until November 2015.
According to Mr Hamis Kaheru, Uneb spokesperson, Prof Okwakol will act as Uneb chairperson pending the appointment of the substantive chairperson by President Museveni.

“The board has drawn up a roadmap for the recruitment process of a new Executive Secretary who will replace Mr Bukenya. The period of three months has been provided to allow the incoming Executive Secretary to give ample notice to his/her employer, if applicable,” Mr Kaheru said.
“The new executive secretary is expected to assume office on December 1, 2015,” he added.

The process is planned to start this month with the development of guidelines for the procurement of an independent firm and end in August 2015 with the appointment of a new executive secretary.

Mr Mandy resigned after President Museveni extended Mr Bukenya’s tenure as executive secretary.
Mr Bukenya’s term expired in December 2012 and was renewed thrice as they looked for a replacement.
He was allowed to continue executing his duties until the Board heard from the Minister or until the board decided otherwise.
In an earlier interview with the Daily Monitor, Uneb’s former executive secretary David Livingstone Ongom, said the board needs a teacher to replace Mr Bukenya.
