Cops held over burnt guns

Two police officers have been arrested following an incident in which unidentified criminals torched a hut at Mpasaana police post in Kibaale district.
The fire reportedly burnt two guns and over 60 rounds of ammunition that were in the hut.
Eyewitnesses said property worth unspecified amount of money was also destroyed in the burnt hut.
The Midwestern Regional Police spokesperson Ms Lydia Tumushabe said detectives have started investigating the incident.

The police post premises were reportedly attacked by unidentified criminals who set one of the huts that accommodate the police officials ablaze.
The incident occurred on Thursday night at around 2:00am
Ms Tumushabe said the investigations established that the incident occurred when the two police officers who had been deployed were reportedly absent.
The suspects are now being detained at Kakumiro police station for further interrogation.
“We have arrested them because we want to know why they had left their guns in one hurt and where they were by the time of the incident” Ms Tumushabe said.

Residents accused officials deployed at the police post of negligence, drunkenness and abscondment from duty.
