  • Good old days. Mr Museveni said that the DP he knew had no such ‘liars’ as the likes of those in the party leadership today.

Kalungu. President Museveni has said the Democratic Party (DP) leaders are only good at criticising government and talking ill about its programmes, which he says are designed to empower Ugandans.
Mr Museveni said the party leaders are only good at wasting people’s time by preaching lies to them.
“I heard that my old party (DP) leaders are still disturbing people, saying they want power. I feel sad for them. I was in DP in the 1970s and learnt that they had no vision. I left the party but until now, they have failed to learn how things are run,” Mr Museveni said.

Campaigns
The President made the remarks in Kalungu, while addressing a rally for NRM party flag bearer in the Kalungu District chairperson by-election on Tuesday.
The by-election that will be held today, has attracted four candidates in the race. They include NRM’s Richard Kyabaggu, DP’s Emmanuel Musoke, Mr Matia Kintu and Mr David Busagwa, both Independents.
Mr Museveni said the DP he knew had no such ‘liars’ as the likes of those in the party leadership today.
The President noted that the government has come up with very many development programmes such as Operation Wealth Creation but instead of appreciating them, DP members only criticised them.
Addressing a parallel rally for the DP candidate on the same day, DP leaders accused the President of causing chronic poverty to Ugandans by chasing Ugandans from nearly all productive areas.
Mr Medard Lubega Ssegona, the Busiro South MP, blamed the government for its deliberate intention of chasing people from landing sites where they have been earning a livelihood.
“Mr Museveni, through his Agriculture minister [Vincent] Ssempijja, has closed all the landing sites, leaving many people jobless,” Mr Ssegona said, adding that they cannot just continue looking on as Ugandans are being mistreated.
DP leaders also accused the government of using security agencies to persecute Opposition leaders.
At the DP rally, the Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, told the people of Kalungu not to waste their time on leaders whom they will not audit.
The Kalungu District chairperson seat fell vacant on February 6 after Court of Appeal nullified the election of Mr Kyabaggu on grounds that the Electoral Commission fabricated declaration of results forms from four polling stations of Kulamaga, Kitawuluzi, Yesu Akwagala and Bugomola.
