What you need to know:

Irate. President says public servants prefer to enrich themselves to development.

KABERAMAIDO/KUMI. President Museveni has said he is always in fights with greedy people in Public Service demanding for a salary increment so that they can “eat the money” at the expense of national development.
“What you see here is dongo lobo (Luo phrase losely translated to mean development), electricity, schools, health centres and roads. You must have heard that I was fighting with people who wanted to cham cham (eat) the money; they wanted to increase salaries of public servants but I told them to wait,” he said.
“When you increase salaries without dealing with development, then you are not a good planner. I am happy that my son Omona (Kenneth) has said you are interested in agriculture because that is development,” Mr Museveni said.
The President was speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony for Dr Kenneth Omona’s recent appointment as the NRM party national deputy treasurer at the weekend.
The president also cautioned the residents of the area to refrain from irresponsible sexual behaviour if they are to be safe from hepatitis B, which has been highlighted as a serious problem in the area.
“We have immunised all my young people from (age) zero to 13. I am only worried about you the adults who move here and there. But don’t worry we are going to immunise all of you now, that is, if you have not been already attacked. But don’t worry, if you are already attacked, we will pray for you and also treat you,” the president said.
Mr Museveni also told the residents to continue supporting peace and development and urged them to acquire skills.
“A skill is another source of wealth, if you are a midwife that is a skill. I used to deliver cows when I was young, but if you bring me an expectant woman, I will run away because I don’t have those skills (midwifery),” Mr Museveni said.
Dr Omona pledged his support for the NRM party and thanked the President for appointing him to serve the NRM party.
