Makerere University lecturer suspended over sexual harassment

Makerere University has suspended Dr Swizen Kyomuhendo over allegations of sexually harassing female students.
Last week, Dr Kyomuhendo was implicated in an investigative story by NBS television where he was purportedly seen asking a female student sex in exchange for marks.
He was summoned by the university to respond to the allegations by March 1, 2018 which he did.

The university’s public relations officer, Ms Rita Namisango said, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has with immediate effect suspended Dr Kyomuhendo to allow smooth investigations into the matter.

Ms Josephine Ahikire, the acting principal College of Humanities and social science asked Dr Kyomuhendo to submit a written report about the allegations against him


Professor Nawangwe has also advised Dr Kyomuhendo to desist from accessing any of the college premises or interact with any student of the university until investigations are completed.

Ms Namisango says the Vice chancellor has also asked Dr Kyomuhendo to hand over all University property including students' scripts that could be in his possession and any other work in progress that is under his care.
Meanwhile, a five member investigations committee has been instituted to handle the matter.

According to Ms Namisango, the committee members who are lectures will seek submissions from the public and other sexual harassment cases.
