Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo says the church must complement spiritual food with development.

Luweero- The State Minister for Higher Education has advised church leaders to engage their members in development projects to boost family incomes.

According to Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo, a church where members are not interested in starting development programmes that will generate income for their families will not have an impact on society even when the spiritual matters are imparted.

“The church has done a wonderful job in ensuring that our people uphold morals but we need church members who have side income projects. You should be part of the beneficiaries for government wealth creation programmes,” Dr Muyingo told members of Bamunanika Miracle Centre Church in Bamunanika County, Luweero District on Sunday.

Recently, government launched Operation Wealth Creation programme under the National Agricultural Advisory Services (Naads) to create wealth in households.
The minister, who is also the area MP, attributed rising domestic violence to poverty.

“Many parents fail to meet their children’s lunch at school because they do not want to engage in projects that can help them generate income. We are getting concerned about the young children who go without meals while in school. We must fight poverty in our homes,” Dr Muyingo said.

The pastor, Ms Margret Kayaga, said the church is ready to help its members engage in development projects initiated by government.

“It is good we now have the guidelines on how to access some of the agriculture inputs in the wealth creation project under Naads. We are ready to help our members,” Ms Kayaga said.
