Museveni appoints Ogwal as deputy DPP

Kampala.
President Museveni has appointed Mr Charles Elem Ogwal as the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, a position that has been vacant for more than a year.

Mr Ogwal replaces Ms Damalie Lwanga, who was appointed a judge of the High Court last year.
Since the Directorate’s structure provides for two deputies, Mr Ogwal joins Mr Amos Ngolobe who is currently the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in Charge of Management Support Services. Mr Ogwal is in charge of Prosecutions and Quality Assurance.

Prior to the appointment, he was serving as Assistant DPP in charge of international affairs and field operations.

Mr Ogwal will be responsible for the coordination and supervision of all criminal prosecution cases countrywide and ensure provision of quality services.

WHO IS OGWAL?
Background. The 53-year-old prosecutor is a holder of Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University. He started his legal career in 1985 when he joined the Justice ministry as State attorney. Mr Ogwal joined the DPP’s office in 1995.
