Mpigi. As part of celebrations to mark the World Environment Day last Friday, Nation Media Group (NMG) teamed up with conservationists to restore Navugulu Central Forest Reserve in Mpigi District.
The 109-hectare forest had been cleared by encroachers but in 2011, the National Forestry Authority (NFA) evicted the encroachers and partnered with NMG, World Wildlife Foundation and Uganda Breweries to replant trees.
Mr George Kihuria, the Finance and Administration manager at NTV Uganda, said NMG was proud to be part of the campaign to restore the environment. NMG staff planted trees in the forest reserve.
NMG is the parent company of Monitor Publications Ltd.
Uganda Breweries Supply Chain Director Shane Healy said their involvement to protect the environment is premised on the fact that their company largely depends on Lake Victoria.
Mr Healy said: “Without Lake Victoria, there is no Uganda Breweries,” highlighting the need for sustainable energy use as well as reductions in the company’s carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
