Parliament probes Kasese killings

Some of the houses in King Mumbere’s palace were set ablaze during the attack on the palace.

The Deference and Internal Affairs committee of Parliament on Wednesday started investigations into the recent Kasese attacks which left over 100 people dead scores injured and dozens arrested.

The attacks also led to the arrest of King Charles Wesley Mumbere of the Rwenzururu kingdom. He is now facing murder charges.

The committee chaired by Mityana Woman MP Judith Nabakooba is meeting former Minister for Defence Crispus Kiyonga in a closed door probe.

Earlier on, the Head of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, Brig. Charles Bakahumura, appeared before the committee but he declined to speak to journalists after the closed meeting.

The Rwenzururu king was charged with the March 24, murder of police constable Godfrey Kasimba.

“This has been a closed session…I am not allowed to divulge information to the media,” he said.
