MASAKA. Students at Muteesa I Royal University (MRU) have been advised to create a personal brand if they are to compete favourably in the world of work after completing their courses at the university .
Speaking to students that attended a-two-day Career Guidance Expo at MRU main campus in Masaka on Tuesday , Mr Andrew Nongumya, the manager National Social Security Fund Masaka branch, advised them to be have something they are known for.
“You should always be with something that will identify you out of the big group, personal brand, everybody must be with be one,” Mr Nongumya said before he cited for them an example “Daily Monitor says truth every day and indeed that is what they do, then what about you?”
Mr Nongomya added that the personal brand must be reflected in whatever one does.
He further warned students on the world beyond the gates of the university, “The other side of the world is hot! Here you are still pampered with pocket money. The day you will stop receiving free money is when you will release that things are tough. Develop a culture of saving and this will enable you to get rich.” Nongomya said
Ms Florence Nampijja, the deputy vice chancellor MRU, who officially opened the event highly praised NSSF and Monitor Publications Ltd for organising Career Guidance Expos ,saying that students have gained a lot. “When I was still a student at university, I never got such a chance and if it is arranged for our students prior to their exit from the university ,then I see this as an opportunity for them,” Ms Nampijja noted.
