Traffic suspended on Kampala-Masaka highway as UNRA embarks on two-day road repairs

Motorists along Kampala-Masaka highway have been advised to use alternative routes for the next two days as the road will be closed over ongoing repairs.

The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) on Tuesday said it will temporarily close the road section at Kyengera, 2.6 Kilometres from Busega junction starting October 31 to allow execution of emergency repairs on this section.

“The scope of work will include replacement of the damaged culvert crossing, desilting of the drainage channels and patching of the road shoulders. The works are intended to keep the road motorable and to ensure safety of all road users,” said Mr Allan Ssempebwa, the UNRA media relations manager.

Traffic from Kampala side will use Kyengera - Mugongo – Kasenge – Buddo – Kisozi – Kitemu route which is about 11.4Km or Nateete – Kasenge – Buddo – Kisozi – Kitemu route (11.5km).
Mr Ssempebwa said heavy trucks travelling from Masaka side will use Nsangi through Buloba (4.4Km) while light vehicles will use Nabbingo bypass to Kyengera (2.5Km).
Normal traffic flow is expected to be restored in 48 hours.

“We request for your patience as we work around the clock to restore the affected section of the road,” he added.
