President Yoweri Museveni has been nominated as a presidential candidate for next years elections on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
Mr Museveni was proposed by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and seconded by State Minister for Youth and Children Evelyn Anite for nomination.
While addressing the media shortly after his nomination at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, Mr Museveni said he will embark on some of the unfulled pledges he made in the last presidential elections.
"I’m here because the party fronted me. After the liberation struggle, recovery phase and building foundation, Uganda is ready for take-off. NRM will stick to prioritisation in development planning to address Uganda's challenges,” he said.
Mr Museveni is now headed to Kololo Grounds where he’s expected to launch his presidential campaigns.
At Kololo, security has been tightened with military deployment ahead of President Museveni’s campaign launch.
